Fashion and Fakes

30 Jun

This is probably quite a controversial topic especially for a blogger to write and I think that it is probably an area in which everyone has an opinion.  Before I start I just want to say that this post is only my thoughts/opinions/experience and that everyone is entitled to theirs and I’d love to know what you think so make sure to comment.

I’m going on holiday to Spain during the summer and for some reason I thought of the markets and the fake/replica bags that I’d seen there and I thought that it might make an interesting post.  There are so many opinions in this area and with a quick search of the internet you can find hundreds of sites that sell fake/replica bags and even sites which recommend which ones are best to shop at.

I found out that there was a study conducted by Professor David Walls entitiled ‘Jailhouse Frocks’ suggests that  fakes were actually not affecting the fashion market as much as was claimed.  It was argued that as not everyone would be able to afford to but one, and therefore the company wasn’t really going to be losing that money.  I have also seen internet post claiming that the fashion industry should not complain as the brand was effectively getting advertising as more people would be walking about with the bag.  I’m not sure I full agree with this – I feel that I can usually always spot a fake bag and I can understand why brands wouldn’t like this ‘free advertising’ as they may not want to be associated with the people that have a replica version of there product.

There was a lot of mixed opinion about the quality with some saying that the fakes/replicas were terrible quality and others saying that there were one that were really good.  I’d never bought any fake/replica products and felt that I couldn’t really give an honest thought without seeing any first (I’d always just walked by them at the markets).  So I bought one online – I bought a replica Mulberry Double Zip Bayswater; just because  know that I will be buying at least one real Mulberry as soon as can.  You can find the real Mulberry Double Zip Bayswater here.

So here it is…

Replica Mulberry

I bought this for about £23 and I like it.  I chose this one as I wanted it to look different from the real ones – the real ones don’t come in this colour, and the closest one to this has different hardware, the leather is also different and the one I have has no padlock.

Replica Mulberry

I posted a couple of pictures with me with it on Instagram (I didn’t use #mulberry or anything as I didn’t want to mislead people) but out of the people who had seen or liked the picture no one mentioned or asked if it was fake.  I mean I wasn’t expecting to be bombarded with comments but I though maybe someone might have noticed or perhaps someone did but just didn’t want to say.  I’m not the kind of person that would try and pretend that it’s real; if some was to ask I’d tell them that it was fake.

Replica Mulberry

I know that this bag is no where near the quality of Mulberry bags but I find that for a bag just to throw things in when your going somewhere it’s great; and you can fit so much in.  I have to admit when I bought it although it said it was leather I wasn’t actually expecting it to be.

If there is something that I really hate it’s when people sell fakes/replicas on places like Ebay and try to pass them off as genuine.  I think that this is really unfair on people buying the products believing that they’re real.  I can’t even imagine how I would feel if I’d spent a lot of money on a product that I believed was real only to find out if wasn’t.

There is so much more to say on this topic that I decided to try and condense it before the post got any longer than it was.  I know that there is so much that I haven’t commented on but I hope you’ve enjoyed reading the post.

TL;DR – There are so many opinions about fake goods; both for and against.  The fashion industry may not be losing as much money as they estimate.  Everyone has to make their own choices when it comes to this BUT don’t try and sell fakes pretending that they’re real!

I really want to know your thoughts on this so please leave your comments below! 🙂

Vendula London Bags

25 Jun

If you know me then you’ll know that I love bags and shoes; and this is a bag with shoes on it…So it’s fair to say that I love it!  I got this as a birthday present from my mum for my 21st back in March and decided that it really needed it’s own post on my blog.

Vendula Bag

Vendula Bag

Vendula London create the most wonderful, unusual bags and I really thing that everyone will find something that they’d like.  The brand was launched in 2003 and have been growing in popularity throughout the world.  All of their products are made from animal friendly faux leather too.  Other products from the brand include make-up bags, purses and ipad cases.  I love this bag so much and I always get compliments on it whenever I take I take it out and have even been told it’s like my personality but in bag form.

Vendula Bag

As you can see it has a gorgeous shoe shop design, which I love.  There are other shop design bags, but being a shoe lover this is definitely my favourite and I think my mum made a good choice!  On the back of the bag it shows a women walking her dog with lots of shopping bags (this is definitely like me!).

Vendula Bag

The inside of the bag has a cute London print lining and has multiple pockets.  I really like the multiple pockets as it makes it easier to find things and keep your phone separated from your keys.  This bag also came with another strap so as you could make it into a cross body bag but I much prefer just using the smaller handles.

So there you have it; my favourite bag!  I really think if you looking for something a little different as a present for someone (or for yourself!) then you should take a little look at their website.

Have you heard of Vendula London?  If you have what do you have any of their products and if you haven’t what do you think of them?

Kate Moss For Topshop 2014

5 Jan

Kate Moss will be releasing a new line Spring/Summer collection with Topshop in April 2014.  It’s been over three years since Kate Moss last collaborated with Topshop and has previously had several sell out collaborations with the store.  This collection will be available globally in store and  through the Topshops website as well.

Kate Moss has been quoted saying “ I have really missed being involved in the design process, and working with the team at Topshop. I am very excited to create a new collection that bears my name. Now more than ever with London being at the forefront of fashion as it feels like I’m back home working with Topshop”.

I’m really looking forward to seeing what this collection will be like.  As it’s going to be a Spring/Summer collection I think that there will most likely be; floral, pastels, some sheer pieces and possibly a dropped waist dress?

If you want to keep up to date with the collections release then you can sign up to the Topshop Style Notes List on their website here.

Are you looking forward to the release of the new Kate Moss collection?  I’ll keep you updated as soon as I know more about the collection 🙂

Alexa Chung It Review

17 Dec

This is the first book review I’ve written, and I have read it.  I once did a talk in school on a book that I hadn’t read (Black Beauty) but I had seen the movie so managed to talk about it ok, got a good grade and somehow managed to answer the awkward questions aimed at me like “When in the book do you find out Black Beauty is a horse?” – Who asks a question like that?

I love reading, but I’m not a fan of dissecting books up like you do in English, talking about the use of similes ect.  So there was a lot of very mixed reviews of this book, it seemed to be a bit like marmite – either love it or hate.  But I bought it as a Christmas present to myself anyway.

I love the cover of this book it’s a gorgeous pale pink hardcover with a little picture in the center.  There is a lot of pictures in this book including drawings by Alexa.  There isn’t a huge amount of writing and therefore the there aren’t any chapters.  This doesn’t bother me but it appears to bother others from the review that I’ve seen.  Some argue that there isn’t a structure at all but I feel that there is, it’s almost like reading blog posts or a sort of diary.  I loved that about this about the book, I don’t think it would have suited being written any other way.

AlexaChungIt

This reminded me a little of me

It could be read in an hour or two if you wanted but I decided not to read it like this.  I decided to read it over a couple of days just because I felt that it would probably be better enjoyed this way.  I just felt that because of the way it was written reading in an hour just wasn’t right.  I’m not trying to tell you how to read it, I just preferred to read it this way.

AlexaChungIt

It also mentions some of her favourite style icons and beauty looks that she admires.  You also get to find out a little bit about her life through the years.  There is one thing that I really quite dislike and that is that there is no note under some of the pictures to tell you about who it is/when it was taken.  This doesn’t matter on some pages like when she’s talking about beauty looks like Twiggy and the picture is above what she’s talking about.

AlexaChungIt

I would really recommend this book but I if your unsure whether you’d like it then maybe go in to a book shop and have a wee flick through it first. I’ve seen quite a few reviews refer to it as a great coffee table book; if that’s the kind of thing that you go for then this might be good.  I definitely thing that that this is the kind of book that you can go back and look at for inspiration.

Have you bought It? And what did you think?  Is there any books that you would recommend?

#SBBC Recent Purchases

1 Sep

#SBBC is the September Beauty Blog Challenge which was arrange by Girl Friday and the challenge is to blog everyday in September.  I decided to take part as I was interested to see if I would be able to keep up with the challenge and post everyday.  I think it’ll be interesting to see if I can achieve this and hopefully it’ll get me into the habit of scheduling post more often rather than just publishing them when I’ve written them.  To find out more about the #SBBC then check out  Girl Friday’s blog post here.

So this post is for recent purchases, since I’m going on holiday in less than a weeks time I’ve been trying to keep spending limited so that I can buy more things when I’m away on holiday.  Anyway here are a few of my most recent purchases;

Marks and Spencer Summer Dress Competition

21 Aug

I was recently contacted by Marks and Spencer about they’re blogger competition, in which bloggers chose a dress from Marks and Spencer (under £70) and give suggestions as to how they would style it.  As it a based around summer holidays they ask where your dream holiday destination would be, and mine would definitely be Seattle.  I haven’t been before but I think that the city looks amazing and it’s on the top of my “Places I Want To See” list.

Seattle

I think that Seattle looks like such a wonderful place to visit.  Seattle has lots of parks to visit during the day and has a great night live.  I don’t think any trip to Seattle would be complete without a visit to the Space Needle; where you can also have a meal looking out over Seattle.

When traveling I like to pack quite light (so I can bring lots back) and like to take items that I can dress up and also dress down, that’s why I’ve created a day and night look using the same dress. (I have used some items twice, as you don’t want to go over your baggage limit).

Day

Day

Petite Heart Print Dress – I chose this dress from the petite range as I am just under 5’3″ and therefore will be more well proportioned to my height.  This has a cute heart print and bow detailing at the neck. The price for this cute little dress is £39.50

Petite Double Breasted Military Captain Coat – This is another choice from the petite range, which seems nice and light but will protect against any rain showers.  The price for this lovely jacket is £85.

Red Leather Bowler Bag – A nice sized day bag perfect for fitting in all you essentials  especially your camera so that you can get some amazing pictures of the city.  The price for this gorgeous bag is £69.

Horse Shoe Waist Belt – I think that this waist belt would look great with the dress and would help create an hourglass figure by emphasizing the waist.  The price for this little belt is £15.

Leather Pumps –  I chose these shoes as I feel that you need flat shoes if your going to be doing a lot of walking round the city and I think that these look like they are really well made.  The price of these cute shoes is £25.

Night

night

Dress – See above

Belt – See above

Jacket – See above

Asymmetric Clutch Bag – I feel that this little bag helps create a more evening look but is still big enough to fit your phone, purse and maybe a small digital camera.  This little bag is only £15.

Pointed Court Shoes – I feel like a heel is essential to create an evening look and these pretty little shoes will look great teamed with the red bag and the rest of the outfit.  The price for these little shoes is £29.50

Autograph Moisture Colour Lipstick – No look is complete without a little make up and I think that is Autograph lipstick in Red will look amazing. Not only does is moisturise it also has SPF 30, is anti-feathering and is paraben free. This lipstick is only £8.50.

So that is my look for a day of city sight seeing and a lovely evening meal using the same dress.  Let me know what you think of my outfits and where you would love to visit 🙂
