Summer Essentials (6) – Hair

1 Jul

This is the last in my series of Summer Essentials post, I’ve really enjoyed writing them and I hope you’ve enjoyed reading them too 🙂  So this one is on hair, and the products that I’ll be using most during the summer.

Summer Essentials Hair

  • Aussie Miracle Shine Shampoo – I love Aussie shampoos’ and conditioners and this is my favourite at the moment.  It leaves my hair feeling soft and shiny, and it smells really nice 🙂
  • Batiste Dry Shampoo – To me this is a must have.  I use this in between washes if I feel that my hair needs freshened up e.g if I get caught in the rain/have had my riding hat on.  The dry shampoo comes in various scents which I don’t think are too overpowering.
  • L’oreal Elnett Hairspray – I love this make of hair spray!  It keeps hair in place all day and you can’t feel it in your hair.  I find that some hairsprays leave hair feeling sticky.  I also brushes out really easily and doesn’t leave hair full of tugs.

Summer Essentials Hair

  • Hask Natural Essentials Leave in Conditioning Treatment –
The lovely people from Hask sent me this a while back after they seen my review of their Argan oil.  This was the first leave in conditioner that I’d used and I have to say it works really well. Simply apply to towel dried hair and then style as normal.  It smells nice, gets rid of tugs and leaves hair nice and soft.
  • Hask Argan Oil – I use this almost every time that I wash my hair and I feel that since I stared using it way back in December that the condition of my hair has really improved.  And by improving the condition of the hair it helps to make it grow faster.  This leaves my hair really soft and super shiny.  You can see my full review of it here.
  • Sea Salt Spray – I love the looks that salt spray create.  However after seeing so many mixed reviews about salt sprays people had purchased, I decided to make my own and I’m glad I did.  I find this works really well, is really easy to make and doesn’t leave hair feeling sticky.  This is definitely something that I will be using regularly during the summer. I will post the recipe that I used in the next few days.
  • Bun Ring – These are great for putting your hair up, which I usually do a lot during the summer.  I bought this from Internacionale and it’s smaller than the ones which are usually for sale as my hair is slightly to short for the regular sized ones.
  • Hair Clips – These are from Forever 21 and I love hair clips for just clipping hair back or  just adding something a little different to your look.

Hope you like my Summer Essentials for,let me know what you think 🙂 And what are your summer essentials for hair?

Summer Essentials (5) – Skincare

24 Jun

Sorry this post is a little late I’ve been so busy the past few days and haven’t had a chance to write it.  Anyway this is the second last in the Summer Essentials series which will focus on skincare.  I’ll admit that I’m not a huge skincare person and tend to keep to the same products but I am aiming to branch out a little more.  For me the main thing is to make sure that skin is nice and clean and moisturized.

summer essentials skincare

  • Nivea Daily Essentials  Exfoliating Scrub – I uses this scrub every three to four days just to exfoliate my skin.  I find that it’s really good and prevents my skin having any dry patches.
  • Nivea Express Hydration Primer – This is my go to moisturizer at the moment.  I do use it as a primer I also just like to use it as a moisturizer on days I’m not wearing any makeup.  I like this because it’s feels light and absorbs into the skin quickly.  You can see my full review here.
  • Sugar Stripease – Although not really a skincare item, I prefer to wax especially in summer.  This is even gentle enough to use on eyebrows 🙂  I find that it isn’t as harsh on skin as regular wax and I don’t have anywhere near as many red dots/redness in general.  You can see my full review here.
  • Clarins Daily Energizing Cleansing Gel – This has been my go to cleansing gel for quite a while now ever since I was given a sample of it to try from the Clarins counter.  I feel that this is good for cleaning skin and it doesn’t go overly soapy which is nice.  I find that you only need a little each time and therefore it last for quite a while.
  • Clarins Daily Energizer Wake Up Booster – I currently only have a sample size of this but I will definitely be investing in a full sized on once this is finished.  This helps make skin look more radiant while having toning effects.  I usually apply this before putting on my moisturizer.
  • The Body Shop Mango Body Butter – I can’t believe that I forgot to include this in the picture put it just popped into my head when I was writing the post.  This was my first Body Shop Body Butter but I’m sure it won’t be my last.  Not only does it smell amazing it really moisturizes the skin.  This comes in different scents so I’m sure there is one for everyone.

So that’s my Summer Essentials for skincare, what do you think and what are your summer essentials for skincare? 🙂

Summer Essentials (4) – Eyes

14 Jun

As you can probably tell from my previous summer essentials post I love going for bright colours during summer.  To me, eyeliner/eyeshadow are really important and I would much rather have one of these on than lipstick.  Here are my Summer Essentials for eyes;

Summer Essentials Eyes

  • MUA Eye Primer – To me eye primer is a must to ensure that you eyeshadow is bright and doesn’t crease and fade thoughout the day.  MUA’s eye primer is great for this and doesn’t break the bank either at only £2:50.  The full review can be read here.
  • Barry M Liquid Liner  – This shade is Turquoise.  It’s a bright blue and dries to a matte finish.  The liner has a felt tip nip which makes application easy.  It last all day and doesn’t move once dried.  You can see my full review of it here.
  • Lumene Eyeshadow Duo – This was sent to me by Nancy in the budget beauty blogger swap back in January. It is part of the blueberry longe wear eyeshadow range and is called Northern lights.  This due can be used to make a bright summery smokey eye look.
  • Sleek Lagoon Palette – This was released in March and I couldn’t wait until it came out.  It’s filled with mainly shimmer shades with just 3 matte ones.  I have to admit that I haven’t used it too much as I really wanted to wait until summer to use these shades and to give me time to experiment with it and decide which colours went best with each other.  You can see me full review of it here.
  • Urban Decay 24/7 Glide on Eye Pencil – I have this in Ranson which is a gorgeous purple shade with a slight hint of blue.  This really does last all day and is one of the colours that I frequently take on holiday with me as I know that it will stay put.  You can see my full review of it here.
  • Collection Glam Eyes Gel Liner – This is a bright green glitter gel liner and the shade is called Le Freak.  I can’t tell you how many times that I’ve purchased this shade but I’ve been using it for at least four years.  Another that I take with me when I’m traveling as it lasts all day and doesn’t need to be touched up.  You can see my full review of it here.

So that’s my Summer Essentials for eyes, let me know what you thought and what your favourite summer eye colours are 🙂

Summer Essentials (3) – Lips

7 Jun

This is the third in my series of Summer Essential posts if you have missed out on the others you can catch up on them here.

This post is focusing on lips.  To me summer is a great time for wearing a really bright lipstick but I also find that my lips can dry out a little in the summer so moisturizing lips products are also essential.  So here are my Summer Essentials or lips;

Summer Essentials Lips

  • Collection Lock and Hold Lip Gloss in Break Dance – This colour looks like a bright coral in the tube however is much paler on lips.  I feel that it helps to add a little colour so is great if you don’t want too bold a lip colour.  I find that it lasts about 4 hours before needing to be reapplied.  You can see my full review of it here.
  • Topshop Mexican Wave – This was limited edition and I have only just stared wearing it.  I really wish that I had bought more it’s such an amazing coral/red colour.  If you can find people selling it online then I would definitely buy it or if you know of a similar colour then feel free to share.  I think this is great lipstick for a bold summer look.  You can see my full review here.
  • Rimmel Kate Moss Shade 5 – This is one of my most used lipstick as you can probably see from the picture.  this is a lovely pink shade which I feel would suit most skin tones.  For me this is definitely a must have shade.
  • Barry M Touch of Magic Lip Paint- This lipstick is green, but changes to pink due to the alkali level of your lips.  As everyone has different levels of alkali the shade changes from person to person.  For me it changes to a bright pink shade.  I love this lipstick as it will suit everyone as it changes to a colour specifically for them.  A quirky must have lipstick.
  • Jewel by India R – I bought this from a blogger who creates her own lip balms.  I have the honey flavoured one which is awesome.  The lip balms are great just to moisturize you lips or if your not wanting to wear any lipstick.

Here are some swatches to give an idea of the colours, I didn’t swatch the lip blam as it’s clear and the Barry M lip paint isn’t the colour it goes on my lips (alkali level must be different)

Summer Essentials (2) – Face

31 May

This is part to in my Summer Essentials series if you haven’t seen the first one you can see it here.

So this post focuses on what I think are perfect face products for summer.  I love wearing slightly more shimmery products during the summer as they tend to catch the sun.  So here are the products that I feel are the summer essentials;

Summer Essentials Face

  • Bourjois Bronzer – This is a gorgeous matte bronzer which I find great for contouring and just for adding a little bit of colour to you skin.  This bronzer is shaped and smells like chocolate 🙂  You can see my full review of the Bourjois bronzer here.
  • Benefit That Gal Primer – I currently only have a sample size version of this product but I’ll definitely be investing in the full size once it runs outs.  I find that my make-up stays put all day when I use this primer, which I think is essential for summer as you don’t want to have to continually reapply your make-up.  I also find that this works as a subtle highlighter by patting it in just above your cheeks.
  • Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation – This foundation helps create a lovely glow without making you look like a disco ball.  It provides a medium coverage and helps to brighten up your skin.  Wake Me Up foundation also feels really light on skin making it perfect for summer.  You can see my full review of it here.
  • MUA Pressed Powder –  I use this powder in the summer usually just along my T zone to prevent it from getting oily.  This pressed powder is £1 only in Superdrug and I feel that it’s really good value for the money.
  • Sleek Rose Gold Blush – This is a lovely coral/pink coloured blusher and has a subtle gold shimmer running though it.  It’s really pigmented so a little goes a long way.  Coral shades seem to be really popular this summer and I feel this blush is a must have for summer.  You can see my full review of Sleek Rose Gold bush here.

So that the second in my summer essentials posts, let me know what you think of the products that I included and what you summer essentials would be 🙂

Summer Essentials (1) – Nails

24 May

I’ve decided that I would start a little series of posts called Summer Essentials where I will pick out some of the products that I will be using over the summer.  I will post these every Friday for the next few weeks.  This week is Nails where I will show my favourite summer nail varnishes.  I will also be creating the following posts in the series, Face, Lips, Eyes, Skincare and Hair.

When it comes to summer I love wearing bright colours on my nails and here are the shades that I’ve chosen to feature in my Summer Essentials Nail post.

  • L.A Colors Green Tea – This shade is pale green and shimmery.  I think glittery colours look great in summer when the sunlight catches them.  You can see what the colour looks like here.  I usually use three coats to make the colour opaque but you can use less.
  • L.A Colours Atomic – The photo doesn’t do this colour justice, in real life it’s a gorgeous bright blue/green colour which always reminds me of the sea.
  • Barry M Blueberry Ice Cream – This shade is a lovely bright sky blue shade.  I find that this nail varnish needs two coats to ensure that it is streak free.
  • Barry M Gelly Nail Paint Grapefruit – This is a bright pink and as it’s part of the Gelly Hi-Shine range it dries with a very glossy finish.  You can see what the colour looks like on nails here.
  • Nails Inc Warwick Avenue – This is a pale pink and will need a few coats to build the colour up and make it really opaque.  If your a fan of French manicures then I think that this would be a great pink shade for it.
  • L’oreal Royalty Reinvented – This is a lovely lilac shade which I think I will be wearing a lot during the summer.  The brush is wider than the usual nail polish brush size meaning that you can coat the nail in one stroke.  I usually use two coats but you could definitely get away with one coat.

Let me know what you think of my first Summer Essentials post and what colours you love wearing during the summer 🙂
