Little Blogging Tips – Starting Up

She's Looking at the Stars Little Blogging Tips

As you can probably tell from the title I decided to start a little series of blogging tip.  I am by no means saying that I’m an expert or anything, I’ve only been blogging for also two years now (time seems to fly by!) I just though that I’d put together some of what I’ve experienced into a few little posts to help others 🙂

  • Be yourself – I think that this is by far the most important; your blog should be for you.  Although it’s hard try not to compare yourself to other bloggers, especially ones who are well established.  Chances are your blog isn’t going to become the best blog within a day and your views and followers will grow slowly.  And I honestly think that the best way to get people to read your blog is to just be yourself and try to put your personality in to it.

  • Write what you want –  I’ve see a few blog tip posts saying write about one thing but to be honest  really think that you should write what you want; it’s your space on the internet and it’s up to you what you want to say!  Of course it’s nice if blogs have a common theme like beauty but that doesn’t have to be the one and only thing you talk about if you feel that you have something else to say 🙂

  • Don’t do it for free things! –  Something that I really dislike is when you see bloggers constantly asking for free things or asking other bloggers how they got a product for free.  If a company wants to work with you, most of the time they will contact you.  Sometimes companies will ask for bloggers to contact them on Twitter if they’re looking for products to be reviewed/publicized.  To me you should blog because you love it and you want to share your thoughts.  I started because I was reading blogs and thought I’d like to share my thoughts on beauty and fashion especially when my opinions were different from what I was reading; and so I started She’s Looking at the Stars.  I have been lucky enough to have receive a few products to review and I’m really gratefully for the opportunity – I always get really excited when this happens.  So if you only want free things then I wouldn’t recommend starting a blog because you probably won’t get anything straight way and if your only after free things then chances are you won’t want to put any effort in.

Anyway that’s the first in my series of Little Blogging Tips and the next post will focus on views and followers.  I really hope that you enjoyed the post and I’d love to know what you thought 🙂

Sleek Storm Palette

26 May

Uni exams are finally all over, meaning that I’ll be able to blog more often as I won’t have loads of deadlines.  Anway I’d seen this palette a few time on other blogs and instagram and when I saw it after an exam, I decided that it could be like a reward (Any excuse to justify buying more make-up!).

This has quickly become one of my favourite palettes at the moment.  Out of the 12 shades only 3 are matte, so if your not a fan of shimmery eyeshadow then this probably isn’t for you.   The packaging is like all the Sleek i-divine shadow palettes, black casing with 12 eyeshadows and a large mirror.  On the outer box it also has some tips which I think is quite a nice touch.

I think that the colours in this palette a gorgeous and you can definitely create so many different looks.  I love how they all have names, and they’re all after different types of storms.

They are all highly pigmented which is great and a little goes along way.  I find that with primer they last about 6 hours before I start to notice a little creasing, but you can fix this by just blending it a little and it looks fine again.  As with all the Sleek palettes that I’ve tried so far I find that they all blend together beautifully and that there are so many looks that you can create using this palette.   I will definitely be posting some of the looks that I create with this palette soon, so keep a look out 🙂

Here are the 12 shades swatched (without primer);

Overall I love this palette and would definitely recommend it if your looking for a palette to create both day and night looks.  Sleek i-divine palettes can be found on the Sleek website and at Superdrug for £7.99.

Have you tried the Sleek Storm palette?  Did you like it or do you prefer one of the other palettes?

Marks And Spencer Limited Collection Butterfly Perfume

15 May

This post is a little different to my usual as it’s the first perfume review that I’ve done.  In the past I refrained from doing them simply because I find that things can smell a little different to different people.  But I decided that I needed to share this one with everyone 🙂

I don’t usually look in Marks and Spencer for perfume products just because I have a tendency to stick to the ones that I know I like, but I had heard that this was really nice so decided to give it a go.

*Above image from Marks and Spencer website

Butterfly is part of the Limited Collection at Marks and Spencer; and this EDT came in three sizes, 10ml (£3.50), 25ml (£6.00) and 90ml (£12.00).  The 90ml bottle has a beautiful butterfly top which may remind you slightly of another high-end perfume?  I chose the 25ml bottle as I wanted to make sure I liked it and its a great size for putting in your bag.

The fragrance has a scent of apples, cucumber, grapefruit, magnolia, rose and violets as well as having a base aromas of musk and amber.  I’m sure I’m not alone in not being able to smell every ingredient in perfumes; so to me it smells fruity and florally.  I definitely think that you can smell the apple in this and maybe the violets.  I find that the scent last around 5 hours before it may need to be sprayed again so you can smell it.  I think this is quite a good length of time and the size of the bottle is great for taking with you.  It is also BUAV approved meaning that it’s not tested on animals.

This perfume has a nice light fragrance which I think would be great for the up coming summer days.  I have seen a number of people compare it to different perfumes and  to me it smell a bit like Daisy by Marc Jacobs.  I don’t think that it smells exactly like it but I do thing they are similar.  I think it might smell closer to Daisy Eau So Fresh – I can’t say for certain as I don’t own it myself but I have smelled it a few times.

I will definitely be back in Marks and Spencer soon to buy the bigger bottle and just keeping the smaller one in my bag.  I think this is perfect if you want a lovely smelling EDT without having a huge price tag.

Have you tried any Marks and Spencer perfumes/EDT?  What did you think?

L’Oreal Skin Perfection 3 in 1 Purifying Micellar Solution

10 May

If you’ve read my blog previously then you’ll know that I loved the Melvita micellar water, but I decided that I wanted to try some others as this was the only one that I’d tried.  I bought this L’Oreal micellar solution last month as with skin care products I like to use them for a while before reviewing them.  If your new to micellar waters they are a solution made of water with tiny particles of oil suspended in it which quickly absorbs make-up but is gentle on your skin.

L'Oreal Micellar Water

L’Oreal claims that this is a 3 in 1 products that; 1) Dissolves make-up, 2) Unclogs pores and removes impurities and 3) Tones and soothes skin.  It is also suitable for sensitive skin.

L'Oreal Micellar Water

It comes in a 200ml bottle which has a square shape which I quite like.  The lid feel secure and I haven’t had any problems with it leaking if I’ve been taking it with me somewhere.  It’s really easy to use, just pore a little onto a cotton pad and wipe over your face.  I really like it because it’s super quick and easy to take your make-up off at night.

I find that it removes make-up really well, it does take a couple of swipes to remove waterproof mascara, but I don’t really see that as a negative to be honest.  I think that it unclogs pore/removes impurities a little but not as much as the Superdrug Hot Cloth Cleanser.  As for the last claim I do find that it leaves my skin feeling toned.

L'Oreal Micellar Water

Overall I really like and would definitely buy it again but I think I might try some other brands of micellar waters too; just so I can see what other brands are like.  This retails at about £4.99 in Boots and Superdrug.

Have you tried the L’Oreal 3 in 1 Purifying Micellar Solution?  If you have what did you think of it?  Or do you have any other micellar waters that you recommend that I try?

Lush Ultimate Shine Shampoo Bar Review

1 May

It had been a while since I’d bought anything from Lush and in my little shopping trip last week I decided that I would go in and have a look.  I’d bought they’re Ultimate Shine Shampoo Bar before (quite a while ago) and decided to pick one up so that I could feature it on here and share my thoughts on it with you all 🙂

Lush Shampoo Bar - Ultimate Shine

Ultimate Shine shampoo bar aims to leave hair feeling super clean and shiny.  Like all Lush’s products it’s not tested on animals and this product is also vegan. It’s really simple to use; I like to rub it in my hands to get a lather and then use this on hair.  It does suggest that you rub the shampoo bar onto hair but I like the way that I do it better as I feel that rubbing it onto hair may cause breakages.

Lush Shampoo Bar - Ultimate Shine

I find that this leaves hair looking super shiny and so soft.  I usually wash my hair every second day (I hate the look/feel of even a little greasyness – yuck) but I find with this that it can look and feel lovely for about three days.  I do find that I need to use a conditioner with this because if I don’t my hair can be quite tuggy (it’s always like this if I don’t use conditioner).  I can’t remember how long they last as it’s been a while since I bought one but I know that they last a lot longer than a bottle of shampoo usually does.  According to the Lush website the Shampoo Bars can last as long as 2-3 bottles of 200ml shampoo.  So 1 Shampoo Bar = 400-600mls of regular shampoo.

I think it’s probably best if you invest in one of the Shampoo Bar Tins or use a small tub to keep the product in as it will stop the product from sticking to surfaces after you’ve used it.  I definitely think that the shampoo bars would be perfect for going traveling; as they’re solid it means that you can put it in your carry on luggage.  I’ll definitely be buying another for when I go on holiday.

Have you tried any of Lush’s Shampoo Bars?  Do you have any favorite Lush products; let me know what you’d recommend 🙂

OOTD – Hearts and Bows

28 Apr

So after my haul I decided that I really had to some more outfit posts.  I find that I have a tendency to forgot to take outfit pictures, sometimes I think “This would make a good blog post” but just forget to take pictures because I have something to do.  So my aim is to remember to take more pictures!

I decided to team this skater skirt which I featured in my haul post with a body which has cute little bow prints on it.  I wanted to make sure that it didn’t seem to dress looking so I paired it with some cute converse that have a pastel heart print on them.  I think that this gives it a slightly more sporty looking vibe which I quite like 🙂

OOTD - Hearts and Bows

As you can see in my first picture my puppy decided she wanted to be a part; so I thought I’d include a picture where she doesn’t look so silly with her ears backwards.

Spring Haul Including Forever 21 and Primark

26 Apr

I don’t often do haul posts as being a student I don’t always have huge amounts of money to spare but I did go on a little bit of a shopping trip recently and thought I’d share my purchases! If you follow me on instagram then you’ll already have a little peek at what I’ve bought.

Forever 21

I really like this floral print dress and can’t wait to wear it.

It seems like everyone has been wearing crop top recently so I picked up this kind of aztec print one and a plain bright aqua one.

Next up this dark blue knee length skirt which goes lovely with both of the crop tops.

Lastly from Forever 21 this coral/pinky/red coloured skater skirt.

As soon as I saw this I knew I needed it and at £5 this floral print playsuit was a bargain 🙂

I couldn’t resist this cute little bow print blouse that was reduced to only £3.

I loved those jelly snadal you got as a kid, and it seem they’ve made a comeback as I’ve seen them on so many blogs.  They didn’t have any I liked in my size so I settled for this more grown up looking pair.

I hate places that put things along where you queue as it just encourages me to buy more, and at only£1 I ended up picking this speckled nail polish.

I haven’t bought anything from Lush for a while so decided to treat my hair to this Ultimate Shine Shampoo bar (review coming soon!).  And I really couldn’t leave without Sweetie Pie shower jelly.

Marks and Spencer

There was 20% of beauty in Marks and Spencer and I decided to have a wee look.  Since all my other perfumes decided to run out at the same time I picked this up to give it a go (I’ll be putting a wee review of it up soon!).

Cherry Diva

I actually bought these a week or two a go but I thought I’d include them as I haven’t featured them on the blog yet.  I really recommend that you check out Cherry Diva as they have so many pretty things and super quick postage!

I hope you like everything that I bought; there will probably be lots more outfit posts coming soon 🙂  There is still a little bit of time to enter my international beauty blogger swap; see here for more details.

Revlon Photoready Cream Blush – Coral Reef

20 Apr

I decided to give this a go as there was a three for two offer on Revlon products in Boots and I remember seeing lots of blogs talking about it last year.  Revlon photoready cream blushers come in three colours, Pinched, Charmed and Coral Reef.  I decided to go for Coral Reef.

Revlon Cream Blush Coral Reef

This is the first cream blush that I’ve tried and I wasn’t sure about it at first when I picked it up as it looks really bright in the tub.  It doesn’t apply as bright as this but I think if you wanted to make it really stand out  you could just apply more product.  I think that I’ll be using this a lot throughout the summer, it just seems like such a lovely bright summery colour.

Revlon Cream Blush Coral Reef

Revlon Cream Blush Coral Reef

To apply it I used my fingers and placed it where I wanted on my cheeks and the blended in with a brush.  Some people said that they liked to apply it using a stippling brush but I don’t have one of them and some people said that applying with fingers gives pretty much the same result.  I definitely think that the way that you apply it is just personal preference and that everyone will have a way that works best for them.

Revlon Cream Blush Coral Reef

I find that this lasts about 4-5 hours before fading, if you want it to last longer you could perhaps try using a powder on top of it.  I tried with different bases and it worked well on them all apart from BB cream (but I read a post somewhere – I feel bad that I can’t remember where I seen it as I don’t think it was a blogger that I follow) and if you apply a powder over your BB cream and then your cream blush then it should blend in okay.  I also found that this worked fine on just bare skin and that it didn’t settle into any pores.

I really like this and will definitely be trying some more cream blushers, if there is any that you recommend let me know!  Revlon Photoready Cream blush retails at £7.99.
