MUA Cream Blush in Dolly

15 Jun

I’ve started branch out and start trying some different blushes, and when I saw this I though I’d give it a go as I remembered seeing lots of bloggers talking about them when they were first released.  I decided to try out the shade Dolly as it looks quite different from my other blushes.

MUA Blush Dolly

MUA Blush Dolly

The packaging is nothing fancy, just a plastic case with a clear flip top lid; but then at only £2 you can’t really be fussy about packaging can you?  I do like the fact the the lid is clear meaning that you can easily find it if it’s in with other products.  There are six other colours in the range, so although slightly limited there is a chance that there will be one that you like.

MUA Blush Dolly

Dolly is a gorgeous peachy colour.  I find that it looks darker in the packaging than it does when it’s applied.  I’m still relatively new to cream blushes (this is only the second that I’ve tried so far) and compared to the Revlon Cream Blush I find that it feels thinner and is a little easier to blend if your just using your fingers.  I find that it applies really well and can be built up of you want a more stand out look.

Swatched and blended

I find that this blush last surprisingly well, especially considering the price, I find that it tends to last around 5 hours before you start to notice it fading.  I think it would last longer and have a more matte finish if you used on of MUA’s powder blushes on top – as they have corresponding powder blushes if you wish to do this.

Overall I really like this and will definitely be buying more from the MUA Cream Blush.  I’d really recommend them and being only £2 from Superdrug of the MUA website you can definitely afford to buy multiple 🙂

I’d love to hear what your thoughts are on these if you’ve tried them and any blusher recommendations you have!  I really don’t have that many, I mean 7 is not a lot right?

If you fancy winning an MUA cream blush in Dolly along with some other prizes; then check out my giveaway  – Obviously it’s not this one; it’s a nice new unopened one 🙂

Revlon Photoready Cream Blush – Coral Reef

20 Apr

I decided to give this a go as there was a three for two offer on Revlon products in Boots and I remember seeing lots of blogs talking about it last year.  Revlon photoready cream blushers come in three colours, Pinched, Charmed and Coral Reef.  I decided to go for Coral Reef.

Revlon Cream Blush Coral Reef

This is the first cream blush that I’ve tried and I wasn’t sure about it at first when I picked it up as it looks really bright in the tub.  It doesn’t apply as bright as this but I think if you wanted to make it really stand out  you could just apply more product.  I think that I’ll be using this a lot throughout the summer, it just seems like such a lovely bright summery colour.

Revlon Cream Blush Coral Reef

To apply it I used my fingers and placed it where I wanted on my cheeks and the blended in with a brush.  Some people said that they liked to apply it using a stippling brush but I don’t have one of them and some people said that applying with fingers gives pretty much the same result.  I definitely think that the way that you apply it is just personal preference and that everyone will have a way that works best for them.

Revlon Cream Blush Coral Reef

I find that this lasts about 4-5 hours before fading, if you want it to last longer you could perhaps try using a powder on top of it.  I tried with different bases and it worked well on them all apart from BB cream (but I read a post somewhere – I feel bad that I can’t remember where I seen it as I don’t think it was a blogger that I follow) and if you apply a powder over your BB cream and then your cream blush then it should blend in okay.  I also found that this worked fine on just bare skin and that it didn’t settle into any pores.

I really like this and will definitely be trying some more cream blushers, if there is any that you recommend let me know!  Revlon Photoready Cream blush retails at £7.99.

Summer Essentials (4) – Eyes

14 Jun

As you can probably tell from my previous summer essentials post I love going for bright colours during summer.  To me, eyeliner/eyeshadow are really important and I would much rather have one of these on than lipstick.  Here are my Summer Essentials for eyes;

Summer Essentials Eyes

  • MUA Eye Primer – To me eye primer is a must to ensure that you eyeshadow is bright and doesn’t crease and fade thoughout the day.  MUA’s eye primer is great for this and doesn’t break the bank either at only £2:50.  The full review can be read here.
  • Barry M Liquid Liner  – This shade is Turquoise.  It’s a bright blue and dries to a matte finish.  The liner has a felt tip nip which makes application easy.  It last all day and doesn’t move once dried.  You can see my full review of it here.
  • Lumene Eyeshadow Duo – This was sent to me by Nancy in the budget beauty blogger swap back in January. It is part of the blueberry longe wear eyeshadow range and is called Northern lights.  This due can be used to make a bright summery smokey eye look.
  • Sleek Lagoon Palette – This was released in March and I couldn’t wait until it came out.  It’s filled with mainly shimmer shades with just 3 matte ones.  I have to admit that I haven’t used it too much as I really wanted to wait until summer to use these shades and to give me time to experiment with it and decide which colours went best with each other.  You can see me full review of it here.
  • Urban Decay 24/7 Glide on Eye Pencil – I have this in Ranson which is a gorgeous purple shade with a slight hint of blue.  This really does last all day and is one of the colours that I frequently take on holiday with me as I know that it will stay put.  You can see my full review of it here.
  • Collection Glam Eyes Gel Liner – This is a bright green glitter gel liner and the shade is called Le Freak.  I can’t tell you how many times that I’ve purchased this shade but I’ve been using it for at least four years.  Another that I take with me when I’m traveling as it lasts all day and doesn’t need to be touched up.  You can see my full review of it here.

So that’s my Summer Essentials for eyes, let me know what you thought and what your favourite summer eye colours are 🙂

Bourjois Délice de Poudre Bronzing Powder

19 Feb

I won this in a competition held on the Bourjois Twitter back in October but I kept forgetting to review it.  Anyway, the bronzer comes in a little case which opens up like a little book and is kept closed by a concealed magnet.  The Bourjois bronzer is available in two shades, 51 and 52.  I have shade 51 which is the lighter of the two shades and I think that this is suitable for light to medium skin tones.

Bourjois Délice de Poudre

Inside there is a little description of the bronzer.  As you can see from the photos the bronzer is shaped like chocolate and it also smells like it! (It doesn’t smell once applied to skin).  The bronzer is mainly matte with just the slightest glimmer of gold flecks through it.  I find that as it’s mainly matte you can use it for contouring your cheeks as well as using all over your face for a sun-kissed glow.

The gold flecks are so subtle that you can’t even see them from the pictures.  The colour is quite pigmented and is easily bendable.  I find that this product lasts all day without needing to be touched up.

I love this bronzer and couldn’t recommend it enough as it only cost £6.99.  I will definitely be purchasing this product when this one runs out.  Have you tried it, let me know what you though 🙂

Urban Decay 24/7 Shadow Pencil – Clinic Review

13 Jan

The Urban Decay shadow pencils are chunkier than the 24/7 eyeliners, which makes them easy to apply all over the lid.  The shadow pencils are easy to blend, but you  have to this quickly otherwise they won’t blend.  The shadow pencils are really creamy, highly pigmented and easy to apply.  I have the shadow pencil in Clinic.

Urban Decay Clinic

Urban Decay Clinic

Clinic which is a dark emerald green with silver glitter through it.  You can seen the sparkly/glittery  particles when applied but I wouldn’t say that it was overly sparkly

I find that the shadow pencil last all day without creasing or smudging (this is also without primer).  Urban Decay also say that they are waterproof, I’m not sure how waterproof they but they are definitely fine in the rain.

There are 12 colours in the range and can be bought for £14 from Debenhams and House of Fraser.

Have you tried any of the Urban Decay shadow pencils? What did you think of them?

2true Cheek ‘n’ Lip Tint Review

24 Dec

2true cosmetics are avaliable in Superdrug and you can purchase three products for £4.99!  I decide to buy the two cheek and lip tints and the eyebrow pencil (that I’ll review later). The 2true range has two cheek and lip tints; a pink and a red.  I’ve only used these as blush so I can’t state how well they work as lip tints. They come in a small bottle (10ml) and have a nail varnish style brush.

First up the pink (Blush pink)

Some people have compared this to Benefit Posie tint, however I don’t think that this is a good comparison as the 2true blush is much brighter in colour.  It  has a thick consistency and blends easily into the cheeks.  The colour can be built up but I feel that you don’t need a lot of the product in order to achieve

Blended and swatched

The red (Rose)

This has been compared to Benefits Benetint, which I feel is a good comparison as the colour is very similar.  The red has a more liquid consistency, which I think makes it more difficult to apply.  It’s also quite hard to blend as if you don’t do it quickly enough you end up with little brush marks, not a great look. If you have trouble blending it I have found an easier way to apply, which is mixing it with a little bit of moisturizer.  This does make the colour paler so more tint is needed if you do this.

Blended with moisturizer and blended on it’s own

Overall I would have to say that the pink shade is my favourite.  I do like the red but I can find it a bit of hassle to apply and if you blend with your fingers, it also stains them red.  I do feel that for the price they are great quality and a lot cheaper than those by Benefit. They can be bought for £1.99 each or on three for £4.99 from Superdrug.

NYC (New York Colour) Individual Eyes

27 Nov

I’m so sorry for not posting in a while, I’ve just had a lot of work to do for uni, the Christmas holidays are soon, so there should a lot more post during then 🙂

Today I’m going to review the NYC individual eyes smoky’ pallet for brown eyes.  The pallet comes with four eye shades (highlighter, all over lid colour, crease and contour colours) and also contains a primer and an illuminator (both of which have a creamy consistency).  The main reason that I chose this pallet was because of the primer, as it’s unusual to see a primer in such an affordable pallet.

The individual eyes range also come in blue and green smoky eyes.  On the NYC website it says that they are specifically designed to enhance your eye colour, I’ll be honest I didn’t really see that much of a difference – but don’t let this put you off, the eye-shadows are still lovely.

Illuminator, and shadow colours (over primer provided)

I’ve wore these colours a few times now and they last all day with the primer, I don’t know how they last without the primer as I haven’t tried that.  I use this pallet for during the day so I tend to pass on the illuminator however I think that this would look great if you wanted a slightly more dramatic night time look.

Overall I would really recommend this pallet which can be bought for £3.99 from superdrug.

Collection (2000) Lock n Hold Lipgloss Review

28 Sep

I recently purchased Collection Lock n Hold lipgloss in Break Dance, which is a bright coral colour in the tube.  I don’t normally care about the packaging of make-up but I have to say that I really like the bright pink top on this lipgloss.

The Lock  Hold lipglosses is available in 6 different shades.  It claims to last up to six hours, I found that it lasted about four hours before needing to be touched up.  I feel this is really good last longer than other glosses that I’ve tried.  I also found this lipgloss to very moisturising and not as stick as others.

The colour doesn’t go on as bold as it looks in the packaging, but it’s a lovely colour and is great for a daytime look.

Collection Lock n Hold Lipglosses can be purchased from Boots and Superdrug for £2.99.

NYC Metro Quartet Eye Shadow

17 Sep

I have the NYC (New York Color) metro quartet eyeshadow in Union Square.  The eyeshadow case explains where to use each eye shadow; all over, crease, highlight and contour, and is therefore perfect for creating a smokey eye look.  The range comes in a total of five colours, so far I only have Union Square but I will definitely be purchasing more.

I have used this eye shadow set on numerous occasions and therefore can honestly say that it lasts all day (I’m not a fan of constantly having to reapply make up throughout the day).

The colours  in the set go very well together and are easy to blend together.  Below are the swatches of each colour; all over, contour, highlight and crease.

The colours aren’t very clear in the picture, and they also have a lovely subtle shimmer to them.

The metro quartet cost £2.99 which is an amazing price considering the quality of the eye shadows.  NYC cosmetics can be purchased from Superdrug.

Barry M Liquid Eyeliner Review

2 Aug

I love liquid eye liners and Barry M produces the bast that I’ve tried.  They come with a felt tip nip making them easy to apply, which is great for people who aren’t used to applying liquid liners.  The liners also dry relatively quickly.  Barry M has a large range of colours both matte and metallic.  The liner last all day without smudging; even in warm weather as I wore them frequently last year on holiday in Spain.  The two colours that I’m reviewing are black and turquoise.

The black is my favourite black liner as it dries to a lovely matte black; I’m not a fan of black liners that look shiny once they’ve dried.

The other liner I have is turquoise, which is a highly pigmented colour and is a gorgeous bright blue when it dries.  I usually use this colour itself during the day for a nice bright look; however I’m sure it would look great with other colours.

Barry M liquid liners can be purchased from the Barry M website , Superdrug or Boots.

Have you tried Barry M liquid eyeliners?  What did you think?
