Summer Essentials (1) – Nails

24 May

I’ve decided that I would start a little series of posts called Summer Essentials where I will pick out some of the products that I will be using over the summer.  I will post these every Friday for the next few weeks.  This week is Nails where I will show my favourite summer nail varnishes.  I will also be creating the following posts in the series, Face, Lips, Eyes, Skincare and Hair.

When it comes to summer I love wearing bright colours on my nails and here are the shades that I’ve chosen to feature in my Summer Essentials Nail post.

  • L.A Colors Green Tea – This shade is pale green and shimmery.  I think glittery colours look great in summer when the sunlight catches them.  You can see what the colour looks like here.  I usually use three coats to make the colour opaque but you can use less.
  • L.A Colours Atomic – The photo doesn’t do this colour justice, in real life it’s a gorgeous bright blue/green colour which always reminds me of the sea.
  • Barry M Blueberry Ice Cream – This shade is a lovely bright sky blue shade.  I find that this nail varnish needs two coats to ensure that it is streak free.
  • Barry M Gelly Nail Paint Grapefruit – This is a bright pink and as it’s part of the Gelly Hi-Shine range it dries with a very glossy finish.  You can see what the colour looks like on nails here.
  • Nails Inc Warwick Avenue – This is a pale pink and will need a few coats to build the colour up and make it really opaque.  If your a fan of French manicures then I think that this would be a great pink shade for it.
  • L’oreal Royalty Reinvented – This is a lovely lilac shade which I think I will be wearing a lot during the summer.  The brush is wider than the usual nail polish brush size meaning that you can coat the nail in one stroke.  I usually use two coats but you could definitely get away with one coat.

Let me know what you think of my first Summer Essentials post and what colours you love wearing during the summer 🙂

I’ve had this colour for a while now, I got it free with Glamour magazine and I have to say that I absolutely love it. The colour is a dark red which is really shiny, even without a top coat. I find that with a top coat it last about 5 days before it starts to chip slightly at the top.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Barry M Gelly Nail Paint Review

28 Oct

I bought two shades of this nail paint, Grapefruit and Blackberry, so far I’ve only had the chance to use Grapefruit (a bright pink) but I have seen someone else where Blackberry (a dark purple).

The Barry M Gelly Nail paints come in nine shades; Grapefruit, Blackberry, Satsuma, Pomegranate, Plum, Watermelon, Blood Orange, Blueberry and Prickly Pear.

The nail paints are opaque and have a really shiny finish, the remind me of nails that you would get done at a salon perhaps like shellac nails?  Grapefruit is a gorgeous bright pink, although I felt that this needed two coats just ensure that the colour was even.  I didn’t use a top coat as they were already super shiny, however you could add one if you wanted to make the polish last longer.  For me the Grapefruit nail paint lasted really well, about five days before chipping, this will probably vary depending on what you do everyday.

Barry M Nail Paint Review No308

20 Jun

Barry M nail paint No 308 (Berry Ice-cream) is a lovely lilac colour. The nail paint applies well and the colour is the same as it appears in the bottle. I use two coats of the nail paint to get the best colour results.

*I would have uploaded a picture but I think that there is a problem with the app*

The nail paint dries quiet quickly which is something that I tend to look for in a nail varnish. For me the nail paint (two coats of colour + a clear top coat) last about a week without chipping. This will may vary with other people depending on the type of work that they do.

Barry M nail paint retail at £2.99 per bottle and is available from the Barry M website , Boots and Superdrug.
